Finding: old-growth forest logging planned.

The Lapinlamminvaara forest was classified as an A-site when the old-growth forest protection program was prepared. In the landscape ecological planning scattered forest patches covering only about half of the total area were protected.

Now dozens of hectares of old-growth forests are planned to be logged in the winter of 2001, including very small forest islands in the middle of peatlands. Almost all of the area is situated in the eastern border zone between Finland and Russia.
