Finding: old-growth forest logging allowed.

Approximately 15 hectares of old-growth forest was clearcut by the FPS during the summer and winter of 2000. Some of the logged forests were earlier defined as ecological corridors by the FPS itself.

In a study commissioned by the Kainuu District of the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation it was found that the ecological landscape planning had left valuable forests containing several threatened species open for logging.

Source of information: discussions with the FPS, field trips, the landscape ecological plan of the area.

Probable buyers of the timber: StoraEnso, UPM-Kymmene.
