goes? case studies
The logging plans of the old-growth forest of Saarijärvi were implemented in March 2001. 20 hectares of old-growth forest was clearcut, ignoring the endangered species Postia lateritia. Stora Enso and UPM-Kymmene bought the wood. Photo credit: old-growth wood piled on the side of the road. The scots pine trunks in the pile are hundreds of year old, with signs of ancient forest fires. According to the labels on the pile, the timber is sold to the Stora Enso mills in Kemi.
