Metsähallitus logging habitats of threatened species

An assessment conducted by a polypore (fungi) expert in two areas currently been logged by Metsähallitus in Upper Lapland, confirmed the existence of many threatened species dependant on old growth areas of forests. In the survey, commissioned by Greenpeace, 220 individuals of IUCN red-listed species of polypore (fungi) were found in the two logging sites, located within areas mapped jointly by Greenpeace, the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation FANC and Sámi reindeer herders.
